Our values reflect what we as a dance community stand for and aim to embody, this includes our dance students, teachers and parents and caregivers.
Respect
At LDA we hope to grow our dancers to be respectful of their own and other dancers' journeys, their teachers, parents and caregivers. As well as our beautiful dance space we have!
This helps us build integrity, openness and trust with one another.
Creativity
At LDA we like to acknowledge and celebrate our dancers' creativity. As much as we do follow the RAD and NZAMD syllabus, when we get the chance to develop creativity we go for it! It is important for our dancers to express themselves, contribute and be a part of something bigger.
We like to encourage our dancers to create and try out their choreography skills in a studio setting. Whether it is a small piece to share within class, with other classes, an impromptu, video project or on a bigger scale such as a solo diploma piece, showcase or production. This is one of the reasons why we offer open classes, as it gives us the chance to work on group or individual pieces year round.
It is always really heartwarming when we hear about our dancers taking the lead outside of class by using these skills to create pieces at school or out in the community to share with a greater audience. At LDA we love fostering these skills as it helps build the confidence to take on a role as a teacher or choreographer. This is how we pass on the love of dance to our future generation of dancers.
Connections
Connection includes the relationship between classmates and other dancers, as well as the connection between student and teacher.
It is the connection to the music and choreography. It is the connection to the studio, helping out with younger classes, at showtime or during costume fittings - doing that little bit extra!
It is the connection on our app Band we use - are you uploading videos, utilising the app, asking questions and being supportive?
Excellence through effort
At LDA we acknowledge that each of our dancers are on their own dance journey, and they are each going to have that ‘lightbulb’ moment at different times!
We love highlighting our dancers' effort in what they are individually working towards at that time. Whether it is a certain step, correction, getting the choreography correct, a personal goal - we love seeing it click!
Has a dancer been putting in extra work, practice, stretching & conditioning outside of class? This is the place where we can reward them with a Values Voucher! We love watching our dancers progress, and try to be a better dancer than they were yesterday! Or is their grooming on point? We love celebrating dancers who dress like the dancer they are striving to become!
